I don't know about you, but whenever I've been up early enough to watch the sun rise I've always been filled with hope that it's going to be a colourful, dazzling and awe inspiring display. In that moment just before it rises, I'm full of anticipation for what "might be".
The songs on this album are a soundtrack of reflection and I think they ultimately conclude in an optimistic outlook for what "might be". In a way, the listener is asked: 'Where have you been?, Where are you headed?...and…Where would you like to be headed’? (often the last two are different places). The victories and losses we experience in life inevitably shape our viewpoint and our path and in that sense the last few years of my life informed this record. A significant part of that was 2 years ago, suddenly & unexpectedly having my mom pass away. The result of the grieving, questioning, revelation and resolution I experienced has been a deep gratitude for the optimistic outlook on life that I hold. I really hope you like these songs.” JS
